  • We are proud to offer AndyMark's latest and greatest 6 in. diameter Mecanum wheel. This wheel's features are a culmination of our hard work in developing the Mecanum wheel since we introduced an affordable wheel to the market in 2006. This latest version was updated in the fall of 2017, and is an improvement on our previous HD (Heavy Duty) version. It has the same heavy duty features, but with an added smoothness while rolling. We minimized the gaps between the rollers, enabling this wheel to be our "smooth rolling" (SR) Mecanum Wheel.

A wheel set is comprised of two left (am-3479L) and two right (am-3749R) wheels. Should you need a replacement wheel, a single left or right can also be acquired. These wheels have a weight capacity of 200 pounds per wheel.

    • Two - Left 6 in. SR Mecanum Wheels (am-3479L)
      • Each Left Wheel has these components

    Roller and Axle Design:

The gray urethane rubber roller (am-3698) has a durometer rating of 80a. The roller has a polycarbonate core, and 2 high load bushings. The bushings ride on brass tubes, sandwiched between the plates with a #10-32 machine screw.

    Wheel Structure:
15 rubber rollers are sandwiched between 2 steel plates. The steel plates are riveted and bolted to two interior cone-shaped aluminum pieces, which form the interior hub of the wheel. The two interior pieces are sandwiched together at the bore with a thickness of 0.25 inch. These wheels can be purchased in a set of 4, or individually. They are sold without hubs, sprockets, or bearings.

Driving with Axle and Hub Overview:

If driven by a round shaft, these parts are needed for each wheel
    • A hub fitting the size of the drive shaft. For 1/2 in. dia. shafts, use a 500 Key Hub (am-0077a) for each wheel.
    • #10-32 x 5/8 in. long screws (6), and #10-32 nylock nuts (6) fasten the hub to the wheel.
    • 1/8 x 1/8 x 3/4 steel machine key (am-1043), one per wheel

    Driving with a Sprocket:

If driven by a sprocket, these parts are needed for each wheel.
    • Flanged ball bearings with 1.125 in. od: either 3/8 in. inside diameter (am-0573), or 1/2 in. i.d. (am-0030)
    • Two 550 sprocket spacers (am-0651) are used to space the sprocket away from the wheel, for chain clearance.
    • A sprocket (type A) with a bolt hole circle of 1.875 in. diameter mounts to the wheels' interior bolt pattern.
    • #10-32 x 1.75 in. long screws (6), and #10-32 nylock nuts (6) fasten the sprocket and spacers to the wheel.
    • Weight: 2.2 lbs. per wheel
    • Weight Capacity: 200 lbs. per wheel

Quality wheels but expensive!

We were able to get our mecanum drive up and running this weekend after a few issues. The biggest is that AndyMark shows you need to make an 'X' pattern while the library and class FIRST provides needs an 'O' pattern. I will be curious whether these wheels can track well on HDPE surfaces at competition.
