  • Description
  • Specifications
  • The NeveRest 40 is a gearmotor with an attached encoder. The output shaft geometry and the gearbox housing diameter is similar to what FTC teams are familiar with. The shaft is a 6 mm D and the gearbox housing is 37 mm diameter.

The power cable which feeds into the black encoder housing has two different options that are already crimped to the end of the cable. (select your needs above):
    1. NEW for 2020! JST-VH-2 connectors Option: this option plugs directly into the FIRST Tech Challenge REV Controller
    2. Anderson Powerpole 15A connectors Option

    FIRST Legality:

    • According to the FIRST Tech Challenge Game Manual, all versions of the NeveRest motor are legal in FTC.
    • According to the FIRST Robotics Competition Game Manual, all versions of the NeveRest motor are legal in FRC as it uses the NeveRest am-3104 motor.

    Encoder:
There is an encoder mounted to the backside of this motor. It is a 7 pulse per revolution (ppr), hall effect encoder. Since the motor's gearbox has a 40:1 reduction, then the NeverRest 40 output shaft provides 280 ppr.

    Encoder Cable Options:
NeveRest motors do not come with an encoder cable as we offer 3 cable options:

am-3926a allows you to connect the encoder directly to the FIRST Tech Challenge REV Controller.
am-2992 has the 4 encoder pins joined in one housing using standard 0.1 in. spacing.
am-2993 allows you to break out the 4 pins separately if you need them in a different order.
Working with the Encoders: Performance Specs:
Force Needed to Break Gearbox: 1478 oz-in
Time to Failure at Stall: 2 minutes, 54 seconds
Motor Case Temperature at Failure: 190 degrees F
If you need the output shaft to be a 1/2 in. Hex, check out the 6 mm D to 0.5 in. Hex-Shaft Adapter (am-3744a)

Fails rather quickly...

These are the motors we buy quite often because they are always breaking. The Shafts are always wobbly after a week or so of use in a robot which affects autonomous and driving for our robot. I wish they were stronger. Other than that, we never had any problem with the motor itself or the encoder.

From the AndyMark Support Team:
This sounds like a failure mode specific to how you're using the NeveRest gearmotor. Where possible, try to limit the side loading on a motor shaft by placing outputs like wheels on a separate shaft driven by gears, belts/pulleys, or sprockets/chains from the motor shaft.

'The product has a flaw.'

'I love the product, but the cap on the motor end has broken on four of our motors. They are so fragile that we were turning the motor to get it aligned with the gears, and they broke. You guys really need to fix this problem. Overall though, it is great.'
