  • This is a Heavy Duty Hex Bearing which outperforms our previous 1/2 in. Hex Bearings as it has a Heavy Duty Inner Race. This FR8ZZ-HexHD bearing, 1/2 in. hex bore, flanged, heavy duty inner race, shielded ball bearing, has an inner race that is thicker and stronger than our previous offering of a similar bearing (am-0279). This bearing has more material between the corners of the hex bore and the edge of the race making it stronger and much less likely to crack under high load. Many of our long-time customers will recognize this bearing, as it is the same version we sold back in 2008-2011, and we did not have any failures. Now, it is renamed and quality checked for your high load needs - including drive chassis with cantilevered wheels.

1/2' Hed ID flanged Bearings

These bearings combined with Hex shaft have made it unnecessary to broach keyways. Design and construction of live shafts is much easier and faster. When you combine these with new encoders that drive directly off of the hex shaft really simplifies things. AM has competitive pricing and great delivery to nearby Iowa.

Good but pricey

We've been using these for years by the dozen in every robot we've built. I do believe they can be sourced elsewhere for much cheaper though.

They Spin

Generally you know what you get when you order a bearing. There are not a ton of places to order hex bearings from, and AM's are as good as anyone else's. We have found minor differences in the hex size on different bearings ( in the thousandths of an inch) which doesn't make a huge difference, but is noticeable with some shafts.
Overall, I'll buy from AM again.
