excellent product and great shipping,
It's really a good product overall, but it should have a picture on the site that shows how the measurements are taken because the shaft is more 0,57 inch in diagonal.
After ordering 3/8” hex shafts for several seasons, we have noticed a consistent variation in the tolerances of this extrusion. Sometimes the shafts will easily slide into AM’s other 3/8” parts (bearings, wheels, etc.), while at other times the fit will be extremely tight or even have to be pounded in. These inconsistencies have created critical time delays in our build and/or made it necessary for us to order multiple pieces so we would increase the likelihood of a good fit. When we receive a shaft that is the right fit, it works great. However, the likelihood of a good fit can be a gamble.
Thank you for this feedback. We are installing better quality control to verify the tolerances for this extruded 3/8' hex stock.
When our robotics team is designing mechanical systems, their first choice is 1/2 hex shafts. No need for key ways, set screws, or pins. For shafts over 6 inches, you need the strength of steel to prevent bending. We are using it for our 26 inch long shaft in our ball intake systems. Just cut to length, slide on wheels, spacers, bearings, and collars and it is done.
The shaft is listed as 'Weight: 0.05 lbs per Foot'but the one we received was much heavier.
We apologize for the error, this has been corrected. The correct weight is 0.74 lbs per foot.
