  • Looking or a flat profile wheel with plenty of grip? Look no further than our six or eight inch SmoothGrip wheels! Many are familiar with our flagship HiGrip wheels which feature an aggressive tread pattern great for biting hard into the ground. SmoothGrip wheels provide a strong level of traction with a longer life-span thanks to their smooth profile. They make great drive wheels on almost any surface as well as great flywheels to propel game pieces at high speed without damage. SmoothGrip wheels feature your favorite 1.125 in. bearing bore and 1.875 in. bolt circle, allowing you to mount a hub or bearing of your choice for live or dead axle setups.

In 2010, the Gray 8 in. 80A Durometer SmoothGrip wheel was provided in the FRC Kit of Parts under the name "FIRST Wheel". No bearings are included.

    Usage With Axle and Hub:

    • If you wish to drive this wheel with an axle and hub, you can pick your hub by fitting any of the AndyMark hubs to this wheel. Hubs are not included with this wheel. If this is your choice, then no bearing is needed. To install a hub onto this wheel, use #10-24x3/4 thread forming screws.

    Usage With Sprockets and Bearings:

    • If you wish to drive this wheel with a sprocket, then the sprocket needs to be attached to the side of the wheel with #10-24x3/4 thread forming screws. You will also need to press ball bearings into the wheel so that it may spin on a shaft or bolt. The ball bearings must have a 1.125 in. od. For a 1/2 in. shafts, use am-0181. For a 3/8 in. shafts use am-0209.

Please note: due to the way these wheels are molded, the outer profile may be tapered slightly to one side; this does not significantly affect performance as a drive wheel in most applications.

Nice wheel, but surface isn’t square

There is a camber or draft to the wheel such that the ground contact surface presents itself at about 7 degrees angle. I was told all the ones of this type do this and we’re expected to wear it in to level. Very odd.

Inner hub diameter a little tight

Hubs wouldn't fit freely. Specs look like they should. Going to see if press-fit via tightening with bolts will fix it. Might need to sand some material to get hubs to fit. -- Response from AndyMark: Depending on the plastic mold, the hubs may or may not fit feely and may need a light press fit with an arbor press or vice.
