With a structural overhaul of how we provide TileRunners, there are now over 250 options available! Check out all of the new options!
The TileRunner is a customizable drive base designed especially for the FIRST Tech Challenge community. We took many lessons from building championship-winning drive systems and adapted it for a robust drive system that integrates well with FTC teams' existing stockpiles.
The foundation of this drive base is a set of 0.090 inch thick aluminum components that provide a sturdy structure to build on. All of the holes in the sheet metal are on a global 16mm pattern, which integrates nicely with many structure components already on the market for FIRST Tech Challenge teams. The included plastic bellypan increases the rigidity of the frame and provides ample mounting options for your electronics. The Peanut and Churro cross members can also be moved into a number of alternate locations to best suit your robot's needs Choose between a variety of 6-wheel drive options or choose one of our omni-directional moving mecanum wheel options. Each option (except for the frame only) will provide all the mechanical parts needed to build a driving chassis. Once you have a TileRunner chassis, it's easy to switch to other configurations. Check out out TileRunner Upgrades page if you already have a TileRunner Chassis and would like to switch to a different configuration. Note: This product ships as an unassembled kit of parts.
Gear Ratios: Each drive kit (except the Limited Edition and TreadRunner - see details below) comes with 3 different gear ratio options, so that you can experiment and understand how changing the gear ratio affects the driving performance of the TileRunner.
45 Tooth and 35 Tooth gear combination yields a 1:0.78 over drive
35 Tooth and 45 Tooth gear combination yields a 1:1.28 reduction
The lower the gear ratio, the faster the output speed. The higher the gear ratio, the lower the output speed but the higher the torque. Variations to Suit Your Needs: The TileRunner has a huge variety of possible configurations. The Stealth wheels can be swapped with higher traction (softer) variants, the PicoBoxes can be mounted at either end instead of the standard location in the middle. Upgrade kits are available to set up the chassis for running the 4 inch mecanum wheels or a set of omni wheels to give the robot many potential driving modes. To help robot builders achieve their goals and avoid the cost of unnecessary parts, the TileRunner is available in several variations. These variations add and subtract parts from the standard TileRunner kit as follows:
TileRunner Frame Only - No Wheels or Gearmotors (am-3297): Already stocked up on wheels and our NeveRest motors? No worries, this version omits them. You'll still receive the motion and structure components of the standard TileRunner. This kit also omits the PicoBox plates, select these for you usage based on the motors you'd like to run.
TileRunner Original 6WD (am-3437): The original TileRunner features high traction 4 in. Stealth Wheels, NeveRest 40 motors and PicoBox Gearboxes with multiple gearing options. Strong 9mm HTD belts drive the outer wheels, while the center wheel on each side is direct-driven for a compact, failure-tolerant drive system. The new AndyMark Nub is used throughout the TileRunner, providing a robust D-bore interface that greatly improves torque transmission compared to standard set-screw hubs.
TileRunner - Limited Edition (am-3437_LE): This Limited Edition TileRunner provides almost all of the performance at a substantial reduction of cost. The TileRunner LE contains all of the same parts as the standard model but excludes the 35t and 45t gears. These parts limit the available gearing options down to just the 1:1 40t gear sets but also remove some of the cost.
TileRunner SD Mecanum(am-3437_mec): Get set to strafe with four PicoBox Unos replacing the two PicoBox Duos of the standard TileRunner. You'll receive four 4 in. standard-duty mecanum wheels (am-2538) instead of Stealth Wheels, as well as all the spacers, shafts, and gears to get you up and running.
TileRunner HD Mecanum(am-3437_HDmec): Take your strafing to the next level with 4 in. HD Mecanum wheels (am-3919). Four PicoBox Unos replacing the two PicoBox Duos of the standard TileRunner, as well as all the spacers, shafts, and gears to get you up and running.
TreadRunner (am-3437_TDR): Traverse any terrain with a tread equipped TileRunner. This robot drive chassis drives a pair of 2 in. wide treads to push, climb, and overcome obstacles in its path. Like other standard TileRunners, it uses two PicoBox Duos along with sturdy aluminum sheet metal frame components. This version of the TileRunner retains the drop center performance boost by adding an idler pulley where the traditional center wheel goes. This way the TreadRunner turns on a dime and trucks in a straight line like no TileRunner kit before. This kit does NOT include the additional gear ratios.
See the Upgrades page if you already have a TileRunner.
Shipping Box Size estimate: 12 in. x 19 in. x 3.25 in. Weight (Original 6WD TileRunner, with wheels and gearmotors): ~ 11.5 lbs
TreadRunner (am-3437_TDR) includes above (am-3297) with the exception of the HTD Pulleys (am-3401), the HTD Pulley Extensions (am-3404), the HTD Belts (am-3378), the 35 Tooth Gears (am-3408), and the 45 Tooth Gears (am-3409), and:
HD Mecanum (am-3437_HDmec) includes the above from the SD Mecanum kit (am-3437_mec) with the exception of the SD wheels (am-2626), 0.59 in long spacers (am-1290), 6-32 x 1.25 in. screws (am-1437), only 4 6-32 x 0.5 in screws (am-1436), and:
M3 NeveRest mounting bolts are now 5mm long instead of 6mm. Assembly guides have been updated to match the 6-32 Hex Head hardware and detail has been added to help clarify build steps.
The product is awesome, the instructions are not. After some trouble and a call we learned that they have been updated and MOST of the changes were located within the online instructions. We can take it apart and put it back together blindfolded at this point!
